If you’re a Wilmington local, you already know and love Mess Hall. It is a quick-service burger restaurant in the Cargo District. And as its name suggests, things are sure to get messy whether you’re trying their delicious tots or famous smash burgers. The restaurant opened in 2020 and quickly found its way into the hearts of locals and tourists alike. We’ve worked with Mess Hall since before they opened their doors and continue to market their brand today. Here’s a little of the behind the scenes of Mess Hall’s client strategy!
When we first sat down with owner Sam Steger, he told us his vision of a place where friends and family could come together and eat good food. With this in mind, we crafted a brand that highlighted their message of “Good Food, Good People, Good Times.” Our graphic designer designed a full branding guide that reflected their brand attributes of hip, consistent, and welcoming. After some revisions, the iconic Mess Hall logo was created. Now seen on t-shirts, social media, and cargo containers, the black silhouette burger is synonymous with messy burgers and good times.
Every great restaurant needs an equally great website. Websites make finding the restaurant’s menu easier, as well as taking online orders a breeze. We created a website that matches Mess Hall’s brand. On the website, we prompt visitors to join the email list, so we can keep them up to date on Mess Hall news and specials.
Email marketing is an efficient way to keep customers in the know while also enticing them to keep coming back. At Kickstart, we schedule one weekly email from Mess Hall to those who are a part of their email list. These emails range from company news, specials, to encouragement to join Mess Hall for lunch or dinner.
Social Media Management
Our goal for Mess Hall’s social media is to connect and engage with their audience. To reflect their brand, we craft witty captions that accompany mouth-watering photos. Luckily, Mess Hall’s delicious food makes getting a yummy food pic easy. Their Instagram captions are typically lighthearted and funny to communicate the brand’s attributes. Each post ends with a few hashtags to attract new followers. The Mess Hall Instagram account currently has over 10,000 followers and the account continues to grow!
Video content is great for a local, popular brand like Mess Hall. Starting with concept brainstorming, we created a series of branded videos to use as Facebook Ads and organic social posts. We wanted all of the videos to reflect the tone of the brand, which is satirical and light hearted. The first video was a general branding video to get people familiar with Sam and the brand. The second video was created to send the message that “we are very serious about our burgers here at Mess Hall”. The third video was a funny take on how the wait times may be longer during rush hours. Lastly, the fourth video was a menu item feature…with a twist.
